Pretty neat, Tom Brady wanted a shot with the Watt Boys!

Imagine... you’re walking through the center of town. As you stop at the crosswalk, a friendly driver waves you across. You wave back and smile. Across the street, you walk into the supermarket and put on your name badge and an apron. Beneath your uniform, you proudly wear a T-shirt showing two people with interlocked arms—two best buddies. Although you have special needs, you have a job and you are treated with respect, you go to movies, parties, and hang out with friends, and you—and your family—enjoy a “regular” life. And you have all of this, thanks to Best Buddies.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Best Buddies is a non-profit organization whose extraordinary work allows people with intellectual disabilities to lead regular lives. Extending his family’s commitment to families like ours, Anthony Kennedy Shriver founded Best Buddies to provide opportunities for people with special needs to participate in their communities, to secure jobs, and most importantly, to make friends. Through middle school, high school, college, and “citizen” chapters, Buddies like our brother and son Aaron are partnered with volunteer Peer Buddies; together they do different activities that build tight bonds, lasting friendships, and phenomenal life skills.

Best Buddies today has programs in all 50 states, plus more than 40 countries worldwide, impacting over 400,000 individuals. Best Buddies’ goal is to continue to expand nationally at the local level, while more broadly engaging the global community in its vision of inclusion and integration.
Thanks to Aaron, our family has been involved with Best Buddies for several years.

On May 30 our team, the Patriot Pedalers, will again cycle in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge. Things will be different this year: Danny will pedal the 100 miles from Boston’s Kennedy Library to Hyannis Port, but after going 40 miles in 2008, Jonah is taking a year off from riding so that he may celebrate with close twin friends becoming Bar and Bat Mitzvah on that day.

With the shared commitment of hundreds of friends and family, colleagues, neighbors, and teammates, the two of us have raised over $105,000 for Best Buddies since 2003 — nearly $27,000 last year alone — while the Patriot Pedalers are closing in on $300,000.

We'd love to have you on our 2009 team of supporters. Please consider a generous contribution to Best Buddies this year.

THANK YOU!

Danny & Jonah Watt

P.S. We’re doing our part, and ask you to join us in helping Best Buddies to create friendships and jobs for people with intellectual disabilities. Please contribute today!
